Municipal Court
Overview
The primary functions of the Municipal Court are to keep records of all violations of city ordinances and to collect all fines and costs. Municipal Court is held at 12180 State Route 111, Spencer, TN 38585 on the 1st Wednesday of the month at 1:00 P.M.
Court Fines
The City of Spencer Municipal Court allows payment of eligible citations before the scheduled court date. Paying an eligible citation online or by phone resolves the citation and eliminates the need to appear in court. Some violations require a mandatory court appearance and cannot be prepaid.
Court Procedure
When your name is called, proceed to the front of the room. You will be asked if you are “guilty” or “not guilty” of the charge for which you have been cited. If you plead “guilty,” your case will be adjudicated at that time. If you plead “not guilty,” a hearing will be scheduled for a later date.
Method Of Payment
We accept cash, cashier’s checks, credit/debit cards(with a convenience fee), money orders or personal checks.

Safety School
If you are eligible and do not have a commercial driver’s license, you may complete an approved State of Tennessee driver education course before your scheduled court date. To participate, you must pay the applicable fine and court costs in lieu of appearing in court and enroll in an approved State of Tennessee driver education course.
Upon successful completion of the course, points assessed for the speeding conviction may be removed from your driving record in accordance with applicable law.
Proof of Completion: You must complete the course and email your certificate of completion to spencerclerk@benlomand.net before your scheduled court date. Failure to submit your certificate by the required deadline may result in points being assessed on your driving record and/or require you to appear in court.

You may also attend a in person class. You may not attend safety school if you have a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) (Tennessee Law 55-10-301c).
